Brown Rope Moss

This brown moss is commonly found blanketing tiny areas In heathlands, and In rainy mountain ranges.
It is massive, growing up to 1.5 feet (46 cm) tall. It forms in extensive patches and they are slow to spread and grow, and is very robust.
When mature, emerald teardrop-shaped capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early winter to release millions of spores.
