Bluefruit Tree

This enormous fruit tree grows up to 64 feet (19.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 44 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a branched, wavy trunk covered in thin, smooth, silver bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is burgundy-brown.

The excessive amount of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with very large amounts of giant, stiff, pointed leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are brown at the bottom and blue with purple lines at the top.

In early spring, it produces several giant, light brown blossoms with long, tapering petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a weak scent that smells like a damp log.

In early winter it produces small, stiff, pointed fruit. The soft beige skin is stretchy and edible when roasted; it is sweet and savoury, and the crunchy grey flesh is slightly sweet and powdery. The lime seed is tiny and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
