Ambervine

Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This giant shrub grows up to 10 feet (3.0 meters) tall and lives for around 41 years. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous branched, straight stems covered in silky, yellow bark, and the wood inside is burgundy-brown.

The branches are short stubs with dozens of twigs that and are covered with very large amounts of tiny, spear shaped, leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are solid amber with indigo streaks, strong and waxy.

In late summer it produces a thick sheet of small, white blossoms with sickle shaped petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have an intensely strong scent that smells like fermented fruit.

In early autumn tiny long, narrow fruits ripen. The rubbery olive skin is delicate and bitter and sour, and the slightly crunchy amber flesh is savoury and dry. The yellow seed is very large and is in the centre of the fruit.

It absorbs an exceptionally large amount of water each day.
