This brown moss is commonly found growing in medium-sized clumps In rainy mountain ranges, and On trees.
It is big, growing up to 9 inches (23 cm) tall. It forms in thin clumps and they are slow to spread and grow, and is slightly delicate.
When mature, emerald kidney-shaped capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the late summer to release thousands of spores; it can cause allergic reactions.

It is suitable for making strong rope
It blooms only at night.
It aggressively steals nutrients from other large plants (but not each other).
