Bloodfruit Tree

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 17 feet (5.2 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 51 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, straight trunk covered in delicate, ridged, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the hard wood is light brown.

The thin clumps of branches are short stubs and are covered with large amounts of giant, long, tapering leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are blood red on the sides and dark brown at the center.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of small, washed-out yellow blossoms with stiff, pointed petals. They are very delicate and have a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like lavender.

In mid-autumn it produces , wide fruit. The waxy green skin is thick and inedible, and the very soft blood red flesh is salty and dry. The intense orange seeds are large and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.
