Crimson Spike

This modest-sized cactus grows up to 52 feet (15.8 meters) tall. It splits at the base to form 5 wispy stems. Each stem is moss green and dark brown, and is covered in brittle blood red spines. The spherical body is amber or red, and is covered in thousands of flexible orange spines.

It is steady-growing, taking 4 years to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with each petal a slightly different shade of muted orange grow at the top, reappearing once every 2 years. The flower head is shaped like a bowl made up of handfuls of tightly layered, narrow petals. It has a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like rainy days.

The cactus's skin is nearly impenetrable, the olive flesh is leathery, and the violet sap is thin.
