This copper moss is commonly found growing in small clumps In damp forests.
It is big, growing up to 9 inches (23 cm) tall. It forms in sparse patches and they are slow to spread and grow, and is slightly frail; it dislikes being stepped on.
When mature, emerald triangular capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early autumn to release millions of spores.

Their seeds have hallucinogenic properties.
It is suitable for making paper
It commonly grows in large patches.
