Bloodfruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 11 feet (3.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 46 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a very thick, curved trunk covered in waxy, dark green bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is black.

The small bunches of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with very large amounts of large, slender, pointed leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are grey with gold tips.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of medium-sized, bronze blossoms with oval-shaped shaped petals. They are sturdy and have an overpowering scent that smells like sweat.

In mid-autumn it produces small, long, narrow fruit. The leathery white skin is thick and edible when boiled; it is sweet, and the very soft blood red flesh is sweet and salty and very juicy. The brilliant red seed is tiny and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.

The entire plant is edible and the grains arevery savoury.
It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
