Blackberry Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 83 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a sturdy, wavy trunk covered in thick, cracked, light gray bark, and inside, the very light wood is black with white speckles.

The small bunches of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with sparse amounts of huge, sickle shaped leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are lilac and black.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of medium-sized, azure blossoms with perforated petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have an overpowering scent that smells like cheap aftershave.

In mid-summer it produces very large, oval fruit. The smooth yellow skin is thin and inedible, and the slightly crunchy blood red flesh is sweet and spicy and oily. The dark brown seed is small and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with grassy ground between them.
