Magenta Fruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its stem)

This short fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 55 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, straight trunk covered in hard, cracked, mahogany-coloured bark, and inside, the very light wood is pale brown-grey.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with handfuls of tiny, long, narrow leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are magenta on the sides and deep yellow at the center.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of giant, magenta blossoms with 5 pointed petals. They are hardy and have an overpowering scent that smells like rotten eggs.

In mid-autumn it produces tiny, needle-like fruit. The sticky caramel skin is delicate and edible when roasted; it is sour, and the soft magenta flesh is sweet and very dry. The deep yellow seeds are large and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
The sap causes severe allergic reactions.
It only grows on the most fertile lands.
