Blueberry Tree

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 14 feet (4.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 85 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, straight trunk covered in very thick, smooth, brown-green bark, and inside, the very hard wood is silver.

The small handful of branches are short stubs and are covered with large amounts of tiny, finger-like leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are dark brown and beige.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of tiny, sky blue blossoms with oblong shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a weak scent that smells like new books.

In late summer it produces large, wide fruit. The leathery hazel skin is tough and edible when cooked; it is sweet and salty, and the soft red flesh is sweet and very dry. The caramel seeds are tiny and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
