Bluefruit Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 73 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, slanted trunk covered in very thick, rough, dark gray bark, and inside, the very dense wood is dark brown.

The branches are short, thin and wispy and are covered with very large amounts of giant, fan-like leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are pale red and turquoise.

In early spring, it produces many clusters of tiny, blue blossoms with circular petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a mildly strong scent that smells like burning wood.

In mid-autumn it produces , finger-like fruit. The crispy hazel skin is thick and inedible, and the very soft ashy blue flesh is sweet and spicy and powdery. The deep red seed is large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
