Crimson Succulent

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This massive caudiciform grows up to 174 feet (53.0 meters) tall. The wide stem is moss green, and is covered in thousands of flexible faded red spines. The bulbous, crimson trunk can grow to as much as 174 feet (53.0 meters) in diameter. Its gray-green branches are long and thin.

The ripped-edged, thin leaves are either light grey or copper, with crimson splotches. They are frail, and detach easily.

It is very fast growing, taking 9 months to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with petals that are generally turquoise; each flower tends to be a variation of this colour, grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is made up of several petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight tube. It has a fairly strong scent that smells like vanilla.

The caudiciform's skin is nearly impenetrable, the purple flesh is smooth, and the black sap is thin.

It can survive a very long time without water.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
