Blackfruit Tree

This short fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 22 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, wavy trunk covered in hard, smooth, brown bark, and inside, the very dense wood is pale brown.

The tangled mess of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with copious amounts of large, wide leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are solid black or gold, with silver splotches.

In early spring, it produces several medium-sized, caramel blossoms with 6 heart-shaped shaped petals. They are very delicate and have a fairly strong scent that smells like paint.

In late summer it produces small, oval fruit. The crispy faded yellow skin is tough and bitter and sour, and the slightly crunchy white flesh is bitter and sour and powdery. The brown seeds are large and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with clear space between them.
