Copperfruit Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 25 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a sturdy, angular trunk covered in delicate, silky, brown bark, and inside, the very hard wood is burgundy.

The branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with very large amounts of giant, broad, flat leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are either dark grey, or copper with brown splotches.

In early spring, it produces lots of medium-sized, light brown blossoms with 4 teardrop-shaped shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a faint scent that smells like mint.

In late autumn it produces , oval fruit. The clammy black skin is peel-able and edible when roasted; it is slightly bitter, and the crunchy copper flesh is sweet and sour and sticky. The slate seed is large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.
