Caramel Tree

This short fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 43 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a wide, straight trunk covered in hard, waxy, yellow bark, and inside, the hard wood is brown.

The small bunches of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with thick bunches of miniature, needle-like leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are blue at the bottom and caramel with vibrant yellow streaks at the top.

In early spring, it produces thousands of tiny, drab purple blossoms with wide petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like vanilla.

In early winter it produces small, wide fruit. The smooth bright red skin is stretchy and inedible, and the slightly crunchy light blue flesh is sour and very juicy. The black seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with grassy ground between them.
