Copperfruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 15 feet (4.6 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 47 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, twisting trunk covered in thick, waxy, light brown bark, and inside, the very hard wood is pale yellow.

The small handful of branches are short stubs and are covered with small bunches of large, 6 pointed leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are amber and silver.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of tiny, cream blossoms with many layers of petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a powerful scent that smells like wet dog.

In mid-summer it produces large, hexagonal-shaped fruit. The sticky copper skin is delicate and bitter and sour, and the very soft black flesh is sweet and dry. The crimson seed is large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.
