Burgundy Moss

This burgundy moss is commonly found growing in small clumps In moorlands, and In rainy mountain ranges.
It is modest-sized, growing up to 5 inches (13 cm) tall. It forms in thin clumps, and is very frail.
When mature, emerald spiral capsules grow at the end of long, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early summer to release dozens of spores; it can cause allergic reactions.
