Blackfruit Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 37 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, twisting trunk covered in thick, wrinkled, light brown bark, and inside, the very hard wood is light brown.

The tangled mess of branches are very short and thin and are covered with copious amounts of huge, very thick leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are found in black and peach varieties.

In early spring, it produces many balls of medium-sized, lime blossoms with heart-shaped shaped petals. They are hardy and have an overpowering scent that smells like coconut.

In early summer it produces , slender, 2 pointed fruit. The fuzzy light grey skin is thick and inedible, and the soft gold flesh is salty and oily. The dull red seed is very large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.
