Blackberry

This short fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 34 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a narrow, twisting trunk covered in thin, cracked, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the hard wood is burgundy.

The abundance of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with very large amounts of small, thin leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are dark brown with peach tips.

In early spring, it produces bunches of large, pink blossoms with needle-like petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are very delicate and have a delicate scent that smells like glue.

In early autumn it produces , long, narrow fruit. The waxy olive skin is tough and inedible, and the very soft cyan flesh is spicy and juicy. The hazel seed is very large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.
