Violet Petal

Flower type: Annual (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small flower grows up to 4 inches (10 cm) tall. Its black stem is thick and straight with a curved tip, and the large, lime green leaves are perforated with serrated edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

A single large flower sits at the end of each stem. The flowers are 6 cm (2.4 inches) wide, with petals that are silver in the center, violet in the middle and slate at the edges. The flower head is shaped like a sphere with 55 raised, round-tipped petals. They are sturdy.

It has an intensely strong scent that smells like glue, and it has a modest amount of pollen. It is pollinated by the wind.
