Blueberry Tree

This short fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 74 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, straight trunk covered in waxy, light brown bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is yellow-brown.

The thin clumps of branches are short stubs and are covered with very large amounts of giant, slender, pointed leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are found in dark brown, red and blue varieties.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of large, vibrant red blossoms with long, narrow petals. They detach easily and have a mildly strong scent that smells like misty mornings.

In early autumn it produces small, oval fruit. The rubbery green skin is delicate and inedible, and the soft deep blue flesh is savoury and very juicy. The bronze seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.
