Brownfruit Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 24 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, twisting trunk covered in thin, waxy, dark brown bark, and inside, the light wood is yellow-brown.

The tangled mess of branches are short, thin and wispy and are covered with small bunches of huge, thick leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are solid brown with amber zig-zags.

In early spring, it produces lots of medium-sized, lime blossoms with 5 kidney-shaped shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a strong scent that smells like rotten egg.

In early autumn it produces small, stiff, pointed fruit. The smooth hazel skin is peel-able and inedible, and the crunchy gold flesh is sweet and sour and oily. The yellow seed is tiny and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.
