Crimson Spinevine

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This big caudiciform grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall. The thin stem is pink-red, and is covered in brittle olive spines. The curved, blood red trunk can grow to as much as 7 feet (2.1 meters) in diameter at the top. Its copper branches are very short and slender and start growing three quarters of the way up the stem.

The copious amounts of smooth-edged, wispy leaves are generally bright orange. They are delicate, but are very difficult to pull away.

It is slow growing, taking 38 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a single flower with petals that are either azure or azure, with a yellow center grows at the top, reappearing after 5 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is shaped like a heart made up of handfuls of raised, round-tipped petals. It has an intensely strong scent that smells like rotten eggs.

The caudiciform's skin is thick, the muted blue flesh is slimy, and the lime sap is thin.

It is difficult to kill and will quickly regrow if it falls or if its limbs are knocked off.
It is suitable for making strong rope
