Ashy Blue Fruit Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 59 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a flexible, straight trunk covered in thin, ridged, brown bark, and inside, the very light wood is pale brown-grey.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with sparse amounts of small, circular leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are peach and yellow.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of large, green blossoms with needle-like petals. They are very delicate and have a mildly strong scent that smells like perfume.

In early autumn it produces very large, pleated fruit. The hairy ashy blue skin is peel-able and edible when cooked; it is sweet and bitter, and the slightly crunchy white flesh is salty and dry. The grey seeds are tiny and are bunched at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
