Turquoise

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 170 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has several thick, twisting stems covered in fine, ridged, pine-coloured bark, and the wood inside is mahogany-coloured.

The branches are long and slender with dozens of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of large, long, narrow, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are solid turquoise or hazel, with pink zig-zags, rigid and sticky.

In late spring it produces dozens of large, light brown blossoms with kidney-shaped shaped petals. They are hardy and have a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like onion.

In early autumn very large long, narrow fruits ripen. The waxy orange skin is stretchy and sour, and the slightly crunchy amber flesh is sweet and syrupy. The crimson seed is small and is in the centre of the fruit.
