Copperfruit

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 13 feet (4.0 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 30 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a narrow, curved trunk covered in cracked, brown and grey bark, and inside, the light wood is copper-coloured.

The small clumps of branches are very long and slender and are covered with copious amounts of giant, long, tapering leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are solid olive or slate, with peach edges.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of giant, lime blossoms with triangular shaped petals. They detach easily and have a faint scent that smells like pine needles.

In mid-summer it produces , oval fruit. The soft sky blue skin is delicate and edible when boiled; it is sweet, and the soft copper flesh is salty and sour and very juicy. The orange seeds are tiny and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with grassy ground between them.
