Copperfern

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 103 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous stocky, curved stems covered in cracked, copper-coloured bark, and the wood inside is yellow-brown.

The branches are short stubs with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of miniature, needle-like, leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are found in amber, bold purple and beige varieties, delicate and leathery.

In mid-spring it produces large amounts of small, faded red flowers with 8 circular shaped petals. They detach easily and have a delicate scent that smells like misty mornings.
