Blueberry Tree
Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)This small fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 29 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a knobbly, angular trunk covered in paper-thin, rough, brown-green speckled bark, and inside, the dense wood is white with black speckles.
The tangled mess of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with small bunches of miniature, 6 pointed leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are generally bronze.
In early spring, it produces a handful of small, lilac blossoms with needle-like petals with a tube-like floral cup. They fall easily and have a mildly strong scent that smells like fresh linen.
In early winter it produces tiny, broad, flat fruit. The crispy sky blue skin is thin and inedible, and the crunchy drab blue flesh is savoury and sticky. The green seeds are large and are scattered throughout the fruit.
The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.
Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with grassy ground between them.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
