Copperfruit

This large fruit tree grows up to 29 feet (8.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 52 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a long and flexible, angular trunk covered in very thick, smooth, yellow bark, and inside, the very hard wood is copper-coloured.

The small bunches of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with handfuls of giant, long, tapering leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of blood red or bronze that gradient shifts to intense yellow at the top.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of giant, light brown blossoms with sickle shaped petals. They are very delicate and have a soft scent that smells like a newborn baby.

In late summer it produces tiny, fan-like fruit. The clammy light grey skin is thick and edible when boiled; it is slightly savoury, and the very soft light grey flesh is sour and dry. The subtle red seed is small and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
