Bloodvine

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)

This short fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 45 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 69 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a narrow, slanted trunk covered in thin, wrinkled, burgundy and brown bark, and inside, the hard wood is dark brown.

The small handful of branches are very short and thick and are covered with copious amounts of tiny, long, narrow leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are blood red at the bottom and violet with white streaks at the top.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of small, lime blossoms with 8 flame-shaped shaped petals. They detach easily and have a faint scent that smells like fresh linen.

In mid-summer it produces , long, curved fruit. The fuzzy ashy orange skin is tough and salty, and the very soft slate flesh is overwhelmingly savoury and sticky. The pale green seed is large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It is difficult to kill and will quickly regrow if it falls or if its limbs are knocked off.
