Copperfruit Tree

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 12 feet (3.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 40 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 50 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, straight trunk covered in fine, cracked, brown-green bark, and inside, the hard wood is pine-coloured.

The branches trail down to the ground and are covered with large amounts of giant, broad, flat leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are gold and ashy green.

In early spring, it produces a handful of tiny, copper blossoms with shield-shaped shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a strong scent that smells like honeysuckle.

In mid-summer it produces small, finger-like fruit. The leathery dark brown skin is delicate and inedible, and the slightly crunchy slate flesh is sweet and savoury and oily. The caramel seed is large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with grassy ground between them.
