Blood Red Fruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This big fruit tree grows up to 26 feet (7.9 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 85 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a thick, straight trunk covered in ridged, brown and grey bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is dark brown.

The numerous branches are short and thick and are covered with very large amounts of small, sickle shaped leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are found in bright green, blood red and olive varieties.

In early spring, it produces thousands of medium-sized, peach blossoms with asymmetrical petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like a newborn baby.

In late summer it produces small, 5 pointed fruit. The crispy caramel skin is peel-able and inedible, and the slightly crunchy lime flesh is sweet and dry. The dark brown seed is large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
