Limegrass

Grass type: Biennial (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small, green or lime grass grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall. The broad, flat stalks grow in thick clumps that are sturdy and flexible and they spread and grow quickly.

When mature, the end of the stem eventually transforms into a small, purple puff.

During the early autumn, it produces lots of pollen, and after flowering, it is left with a handful of giant grains.

It is possible to grow it from cuttings.
The grains are bitter, but very healthy and slightly savoury.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
