Blackberry Tree

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 16 feet (4.9 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 30 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a flexible, wonky trunk covered in thin, waxy, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the light wood is silver.

The thick clumps of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of miniature, slender, pointed leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are red and hazel.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of small, amber blossoms with wide petals. They are sturdy and have an intensely strong scent that smells like old books.

In early summer it produces , long, curved fruit. The leathery white skin is delicate and inedible, and the slightly crunchy faded purple flesh is spicy and oily. The ashy green seeds are large and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with clear space between them.
