Burgundy Fruit Tree

This massive fruit tree grows up to 51 feet (15.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 32 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, straight trunk covered in thick, cracked, burgundy bark, and inside, the flexible wood is burgundy.

The large clumps of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of small, fan-like leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are hazel with muted orange tips.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of giant, white blossoms with asymmetrical petals. They detach easily and have a delicate scent that smells like damp.

In late summer it produces tiny, slender, 2 pointed fruit. The rubbery crimson skin is stretchy and inedible, and the very soft muted orange flesh is sour and dry. The faded red seeds are large and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
