Bloodfruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 57 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a wide, angular trunk covered in paper-thin, knobbly, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the hard wood is yellow-brown.

The branches are very long, thin and wispy and are covered with large amounts of miniature, wispy leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are blood red at the bottom and orange with brilliant red edges at the top.

In early spring, it produces bunches of small, vivid yellow blossoms with kidney-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have an intensely strong scent that smells like bonfire smoke.

In late summer it produces , long, narrow fruit. The smooth olive skin is delicate and inedible, and the very soft muted orange flesh is sweet and dry. The white seeds are large and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

Several parts of the fruit tree have medicinal properties.
It absorbs an exceptionally large amount of water each day.
