Bluefruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)

This huge fruit tree grows up to 75 feet (22.9 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 33 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, wavy trunk covered in thick, knobbly, brown-green speckled bark, and inside, the soft wood is burgundy-brown.

The branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with very large amounts of large, pleated leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are grey and blue.

In early spring, it produces many medium-sized, black blossoms with many layers of petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a mildly strong scent that smells like fermented fruit.

In early winter it produces tiny, long, straight fruit. The clammy muted yellow skin is thick and inedible, and the slightly crunchy lime flesh is sour and savoury and powdery. The light brown seed is large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.
