Bluefruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This huge fruit tree grows up to 71 feet (21.6 meters) tall and lives for up to 45 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 79 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a slender, angular trunk covered in ridged, brown and grey bark, and inside, the very light wood is white with black speckles.

The tangled mess of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with very large amounts of tiny, very thick leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are sky blue on the edges and blood red at the center.

In early spring, it produces dozens of medium-sized, subtle orange blossoms with slender, pointed petals. They fall easily and have a fairly strong scent that smells like roses.

In late autumn it produces , long, tapering fruit. The clammy brown skin is delicate and edible when cooked; it is salty, and the soft silver flesh is bitter and powdery. The white seeds are large and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with grassy ground between them.
