Bloodfruit Tree

This short fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 62 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, crooked trunk covered in very thick, ridged, mahogany-coloured bark, and inside, the flexible wood is pale yellow.

The sparse amount of branches are short and thin and are covered with small amounts of miniature, stiff, pointed leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are amber and beige.

In early spring, it produces many balls of large, beige blossoms with circular shaped petals. They are hardy and have a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like blood.

In mid-autumn it produces , circular fruit. The fuzzy purple skin is tough and inedible, and the soft red flesh is spicy and syrupy. The orange seed is large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.
