Blackstem Bush
Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This modest-sized shrub grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall and lives for around 28 years. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.
It has several sturdy, straight stems covered in silky, black bark, and the wood inside is black.
The branches are long and thick with thousands of twigs that and are covered with copious amounts of huge, stiff, pointed, leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are caramel and turquoise, rigid and clammy.
In mid-summer it produces handfuls of medium-sized, orange flowers with many layers of petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like rainy days.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
It releases hallucinogenic smoke when burned.
