Magenta

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 18 feet (5.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 50 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, curved trunk covered in wrinkled, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the dense wood is pale brown-grey.

The abundance of branches are long and slender and are covered with sparse amounts of huge, very narrow and elongated leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are green and florescent red.

In early spring, it produces a handful of tiny, cream blossoms with pleated petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like cheap aftershave.

In early winter it produces , cuboid fruit. The smooth blue skin is tough and edible when boiled; it is spicy and savoury, and the very soft magenta flesh is sweet and sticky. The green seeds are large and are bunched at the top of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.
