Bloodfruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 63 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, curved trunk covered in thin, smooth, dark gray bark, and inside, the very dense wood is pale brown.

The abundance of branches are short and slender and are covered with large amounts of small, wispy leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are grey and blood red.

In early spring, it produces bunches of giant, orange blossoms with 2 pointed petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are hardy and have a fairly strong scent that smells like rotten meat.

In early summer it produces tiny, broad, flat fruit. The smooth pink skin is thick and inedible, and the crunchy magenta flesh is sour and sticky. The light grey seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It is suitable for making strong rope
It can survive a very long time without water.
