Copperberry

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 16 feet (4.9 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 52 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, wonky trunk covered in very thick, rough, dark brown bark, and inside, the very light wood is pale yellow.

The branches are long and thin and are covered with thick bunches of huge, needle-like leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are black and faded red.

In early spring, it produces thousands of tiny, copper blossoms with 6 pointed petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a delicate scent that smells like alcohol.

In early autumn it produces , oval fruit. The clammy silver skin is delicate and inedible, and the crunchy red flesh is savoury and oily. The lime seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with grassy ground between them.

It makes a distinctive sound when the wind blows through it.
