Bloodfire Shrub

This average-sized shrub grows up to 3 feet (91.4 cm) tall and lives for around 33 years. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has many sturdy, angular stems covered in smooth, dark green bark, and the wood inside is pale brown.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with handfuls of giant, very narrow and elongated, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are black and red, flexible and fuzzy.

In mid-summer it produces hundreds of large, olive blossoms with pleated petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have an overpowering scent that smells like petrol.

In midwinter tiny cuboid fruits ripen. The fuzzy bold orange skin is thin and bitter, and the soft blood red flesh is sweet and very juicy. The gold seeds are large and are scattered throughout the fruit.
