Caramelberry

Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 35 years. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has dozens of stocky, straight stems covered in rough, burgundy and brown bark, and the wood inside is dark brown.

The branches are very short, thin and wispy with thousands of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of large, asymmetrical, leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are solid caramel or pastel red, with brown dots, durable and smooth.

In early summer it produces thousands of large, copper blossoms with 6 flame-shaped shaped petals. They are very delicate and have the faintest scent that smells like fish.

In early autumn 4 pointed fruits ripen. The waxy bold yellow skin is peel-able and edible when cooked; it is sweet and spicy, and the slightly crunchy peach flesh is sour and very dry. The ashy green seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
Several parts of the tree have medicinal properties.
