Bluefruit Tree

This large fruit tree grows up to 27 feet (8.2 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 26 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, straight trunk covered in thin, ridged, burgundy and brown bark, and inside, the flexible wood is black with white speckles.

The small handful of branches trail down to the ground and are covered with large amounts of miniature, spear shaped leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are beige on the sides and blue at the center.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of large, caramel blossoms with teardrop-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have a mildly strong scent that smells like a newborn baby.

In early autumn it produces , long, narrow fruit. The clammy sky blue skin is stretchy and sour, and the crunchy beige flesh is savoury and dry. The lime seeds are large and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.
