Amberberry

This modest-sized shrub grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall and lives for around 29 years. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has dozens of wide, straight stems covered in hard, rough, dark green bark, and the wood inside is light brown.

The branches are short stubs with dozens of twigs that and are covered with small bunches of large, very thin, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of gray-green that gradient shifts to aquamarine at the top, light and clammy.

In late spring it produces a thick sheet of small, amber blossoms with pleated petals. They are hardy and have a weak scent that smells like meat.

In mid-autumn small long, tapering fruits ripen. The waxy olive skin is peel-able and edible when boiled; it is bitter, and the slightly crunchy indigo flesh is sweet and spicy and oily. The orange seeds are small and are bunched at the top of the fruit.
