Crimson Spine Succulent

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short caudiciform grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall. The sickle shaped stem is pink-red, and is covered in thick sheets of rigid washed-out yellow spines. The wide, crimson trunk can grow to as much as 4 feet (1.2 meters) in diameter. Its light grey branches are long and thin.

The smooth-edged, finger-like leaves are solid azure with gentle purple dots. They are resistant, and do not detach easily.

It is very slow growing, taking 8 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a single flower with solid turquoise petals decorated with pink lines and a red central disk grows at the top, reappearing once every 4 years. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 10 petals. It has a faint scent that smells like cinnamon.

The caudiciform's skin is extremely thick, the white flesh is smooth, and the slate sap is thin.

It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
It is almost impossible to grow indoors.
