Bloodviolet Shrubs

This modest-sized shrub grows up to 3 feet (91.4 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 133 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has dozens of slender, crooked stems covered in knobbly, pine-coloured bark, and the wood inside is light brown.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright with thousands of twigs that and are covered with small bunches of large, long, narrow, leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are blood red on the sides and violet at the center, resilient and soft.

In early spring it produces handfuls of medium-sized, azure flowers with sickle shaped petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have the faintest scent that smells like sweat.
